Pheasant Ring Shoots
2004-05 Season

Ring Shoots, sometimes called European or Continental Shoots, are hunts where pheasants are driven towards the shooters, who then try to shoot them as they fly overhead. Here’s how they work:

We have a Launch Pad in one of our fields. Around the Launch Pad is a Ring of 10 Shooting Stations. Each Station will accommodate 2 Shooters for a maximum of 20. The minimum number of shooters required is 10. The total number of pheasants launched will normally be 15 per shooter, but more can be arranged. After one tenth of the birds are launched we will change stands. This is done so that every shooter gets to shoot from every stand. Retrievers outside the Ring will collect the bag.

Ring Shoots can be scheduled on any day of the week, including Sundays. Lunch will be served at 1 o’clock before or after we go to the Ring. Once all the birds are released, we will come back to the clubhouse for après le chase refreshments.

Each Retriever will get a pheasant to take home. After that, the bag will be divided evenly among the shooters. The tariff for the day is $300 per shooter. We can arrange breasting the pheasants for those that wish at $4.00 per bird.

These events are great fun, and a great way to entertain. There is lots of fellowship and lots of shooting, with most people using three or four boxes of shells. The pheasants will challenge you and many will escape the ring. There are only 28 weeks in the season, so make your reservations early. For the cost of a trip to South Dakota (where the limit is 3) you can do this 4 or 5 times! There is no limit at Orapax.

Reservations will be accepted on a first come, first served basis. As always, we will do our best to accommodate your special requests.
